A still life is a depiction of objects you may see around your house that you cherish. Whether it’s fruit, coffee, a hat, or some shoes, a still life is a painting that captures the quiet beauty of everyday life that is especially meaningful to you and your family.

A portrait commission is a painting of an individual through a representational and impressionistic approach. Typically, portrait commissions are of a loved one in aims to capture their temporal nature. Whether that’s a child, parents, pets, or a gift, its an extra special way to love someone.
My aim when painting a portrait is to best reflect this person’s liveliness and their personality in a way that translates to a timeless oil painting. My primary goal when painting an individual is to capture those little quirks that make each person incredibly unique, and to create for you a painting you’d be proud to call an heirloom.
Painting a portrait is a profoundly unique experience. I first seek to understand what you’d like for me to capture about this person, then from there we can build the mood of the portrait (color scheme, expression, etc.) I often aim to take the reference image myself if possible in order to build a scene that will translate wonderfully.

It’ll start with an email or phone call inquiry, and you and I will discuss what you’re interested in me painting for you. We’ll discuss the feeling, color scheme, composition, size, and time frame.
For Still Life Commissions: I’ll usually take the reference photo in my studio to make sure the lighting is just right for a beautiful still life. If you are not local and/or you have a unique irreplaceable object you want painted, I’ll work with you in taking a perfect, suitable photograph to bring the painting you desire to life.
For portrait commissions: This depends on the composition and your location, but I prefer taking the reference photos to ensure proper lighting and maintain the character of the painting. If you have a particular photograph you were hoping for me to replicate, we can discuss further details.
